Marietta Ford
Marietta Ford, 94, of Vienna, died at 6:35 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2024, at Hillview Senior Living & Rehabilitation.
She was born on Jan. 1, 1939, at the family home located 3 miles south of Cypress (the West Eden community). She was the daughter of Charles Canupp and Mable Annable Canupp.
On Sept. 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robbie Lee Ford by Justice of the Peace Josh Arnold in Vienna. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2019. Together, they were blessed with over 70 years of marriage.
She is survived by her children, Bobby Lee (Susan) Ford of Mt. Vernon, Linda Ann (David) Hale of Anna, James Dennis (Cindy) Ford of Mt. Vernon and Gerald Dee (Sheila) Ford of Ozark; grandchildren Shawn Leann (Calvin) Stevenson, Justin (Shay) Ford, Christopher (Michelle) Ford, Jeanetta Ford, Jesse (Jennifer) Ford, Crystal Hale, Robert (Melissa) Hale, B.J. (Cristy) Hale, Kimberly (Chris Bunch) Hale, Shelley Fritch, Stacey (Matt) Toews, Melissa (Matthew) Miller and Joshua (Ariel) Ford; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Dulcie Canupp; a half-brother, Leonard (Lorene) Canupp; a half-sister, Murel (Charlie) Henry; and a brother, Andrew (Dorothy) Canupp.
She attended the West Eden and Rago Public Schools. Due to the fact that her birthday fell on Jan. 1, she was 7 years old when she was in the first grade.
Marietta, along with her family, moved to Vienna when she was 16 years old. Her first job was assisting the elderly with laundry chores. At the age of 18, Marietta was hired to clean the Vienna Carnegie Library. In the summer months, she was employed by Funk’s orchard sorting peaches. She did this for two summers and during her third summer working at the orchard, she married the shed foreman, Robbie Ford.
She was a homemaker and is fondly remembered for her love of sewing, quilting and cooking.
She was a member of the Reynoldsburg Church near Tunnel Hill. She had volunteered at Faith Alive, the Vienna Area Christian Ministerial Alliance thrift store. She also volunteered at Whistlers and Whittlers Senior Citizens Center at West Vienna.
A funeral service honoring the life of Marietta Ford was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor David Nelson officiated. Burial was in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
