Margaret ‘Tommie’ Ury

Margaret “Tommie” Ury, 83, of Anna, died at 1:33 p.m. Wednesday March 9, 2022, at Herrin Hospital.

She was born on April 24, 1938, the daughter of Harold and Ada Dagy Thomas in Granite City. 

She married Everett L. Ury on Oct. 29, 1960. He preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 2006.

Mrs. Ury was a graduate of the Alton School of Nursing and the College of St. Francis with a BSHA degree. 

She held many positions in her nursing career. She worked as an OB supervisor at Union County Hospital in Anna for eight years, taught the SIU Vocational School OB class and was the director of nursing at City Care Center for 21 years, retiring in 1999. 

She was a member of many clubs and associations, including the past president of the Anna-Jonesboro Junior Women’s Club, Live Wives Home Extension and the Illinois Long Term Care Nurses Association. She was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Cobden.

She was dearly loved by her family and friends. 

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, March 14, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Dan Whitfield officiating. Interment followed in Trinity Cemetery near Anna. 

Memorials can be made to Trinity Cemetery or to the First Presbyterian Church of Cobden.

Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro was in charge of arrangements.
