Mamie Lou Turner McMillion

Mamie Lou Turner McMillion, died on Aug. 19, 2016, in Metairie, La.

She is survived by her husband, Donald F. McMillion, and her children, Donald E. McMillion, Bruce W. McMillion (Lisa), Denise M. Wilson (William) and Vicki L. Clardy (John); nine grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and friends.

She was born in Jonesboro on Sept. 11, 1936, and married Donald F. McMillion in Anna, on Aug. 11, 1953. Donald and Mamie moved to the New Orleans area in 1960.

She was a member of the Kenner United Pentecostal Church for 21 years and a faithful and devoted member of New Life Church in Metairie for 35 years, where she way very active in the children’s ministry. She was loved and adored by her church family.

She was a retiree of the St. Charles Parish public schools, and an active volunteer for the 4-H clubs of St. Charles Parish for over 30 years.

After retirement she worked as an indigo demonstrator at the Destrehan Plantation. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed travelling with her husband, children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Dawn Cheree’: her parents, Charles Everett and Cecil Turner of Berryville; and siblings Fredrick (Ted) Turner of Cobden and Helen Sue.

Funeral services were Aug. 24, at New Life Church in Metairie, La., and officiated by the Rev. Tommy S. Parker and the Rev. Derek S. Parker. Internment was in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in St. Rose, La.
