Kenneth Smith

Kenneth Smith, 90, of Jonesboro, and formerly of Alto Pass, died at 8:48 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 7, 1929, in South Gate, Calif., the son of Harry and Mae Franklin Smith.  

He married Glenda Henderson on May 23, 1973.

Mr. Smith was a veteran of the Korean War; he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW’s Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 in Anna.

He was a 50-year member of the Cobden Masonic Lodge.  He was also a member of the American Legion, Valley of Southern Illinois Masons with the 32nd Degree, Belleville Scottish Rite Bodies and Union Hill Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda of Jonesboro; daughters Terry (Jay) Manus of Anna and JoElla (John) Basler of Anna; a son, Kenny Smith of Pomona; grandchildren Mike Manus, Emma (Michael) Kelley and Elle Basler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Dan Corzine; and by two brothers, Harry and Frank Smith.

Graveside services for Kenneth Smith were at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Murdale Gardens of Memory, with Perry Williams officiating.

Memorials can be made to the American Legion, to the VFW’s Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 or to the Cobden Masonic Lodge.  

Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro was in charge of arrangements.
