Joseph Pickens
Joseph Pickens, 63, died on Saturday, April 6, 2019, in Cobden.
He is deeply mourned and remembered for being a devoted friend, and having a unique sense of humor, leaving everyone with a smile.
Joe passed after six months of battling stage four cancer. Throughout his treatment Joe continued to have his positive outlook on life, and living each day to enjoy the things and people he loved.
Joe lived independently, until his last month when he transitioned to Integrity of Cobden. In his time there Joe was known for his smile and ability to make people laugh, as well as the resident with the most visitors.
Throughout Joe’s adult life, Joe was an advocate for mental health rehabilitation, especially through his community in Vienna with Family Counseling Center Inc.
Joe enjoyed simple things in life, like a hot cup of coffee, a card game with his friends, good music, or a plate of fried chicken. Joe brought joy to those who were close to him and made them feel welcome in many ways: a kind gesture, a joke, sharing a song or good natured-teasing.
Joe created family wherever he was, he is lucky to have formed two families within his lifetime.
Joe will be celebrated by his Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center family and his Family Counseling Center Inc. family, who will cherish his memories and laughs we have been lucky to share.
Memorial services were at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 10, in the Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center Chapel in Anna, with Bill Littrell officiating.
