John Robert ‘Bo’ Chapman

John Robert “Bo” Chapman, 76, of Alto Pass, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at Integrity Healthcare in Anna. 

He was born on Aug. 2, 1946, in Carbondale, the son of John Edwin and Thelma Hands Chapman. 

He married Norma Roof. She preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 2015. 

Mr. Chapman is survived by his son, Chris Chapman of Cobden; best friend Pepper; three grandchildren, Dawn (Ryan) Cerar, Briese (Manzell) Henry and John Christopher Chapman; four great-grandchildren, Abigail and Anzleigh Cerar, Zidane and Azaela Henry; former wife and dear friend Martha Mayer of Murphysboro; a brother, George F. (Jana) Chapman of Sevierville, Tenn.; other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Chapman; a son, John F. Chapman; and a daughter-in-law, Andria Chapman. 

Mr. Chapman worked for 42 years as a dispatcher for the railroad until his retirement. 

After moving back to Southern Illinois he attended the Congregational Church in Alto Pass for many years. 

Mr. Chapman was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed playing softball and golfing. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame fan. 

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Alto Pass, with Pastor Don Cox officiating. Interment was in the Alto Pass Cemetery.
