Jimmy Ray Simmons Sr.

Jimmy Ray Simmons Sr., 79, of Thebes, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at the Integrity Healthcare of Anna.

Mr. Simmons was born on Oct. 5, 1942, in Edwardsville, the son of Ray Franklin and Thelma Jackson Simmons.

He was a construction laborer and worked at Oil-Dri in Mounds.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Franklin Simmons; his mother, Thelma Smiley; and a brother, Bobby Simmons.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Simmons; sons Jimmy Ray (Crystal) Simmons Jr. and Jeffery “Jeff” (Carey) Simmons; daughters Tammy (Jerry) Clutts and Rebecca (Billy) Caldwell; stepdaughters Jessica Ann Hale and Heather Lynn (Troy) Wilburn; a brother, Jerry Crite; a sister, Peggy Woodruff; 11 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
