Jewell Ellean Lindsey Hicks

A strong headed woman has left this world and now rests in heaven. Jewell Ellean Lindsey Hicks, of Jonesboro, died on Oct. 16, 2020, at the young age of 69. She was actually 90, but loved telling everyone she was 15 to 20 years younger even to the end.

She was born in Pulaski, the daughter of  Hester Armeady McBride and Barney Lindsey on May 16, 1930.

She married the love of her life, Harold Dale Hicks, in Caitlin in 1948. They celebrated 55 years together until Dale’s death in 2003.

She retired from the SIU Carbondale Bakery in 2008. She was an excellent baker and loved decorating the many wedding cakes, birthday cakes and holiday treats for SIU students, as well as her family.

Her greatest passions after retiring were her yard and many flower gardens. Most times she could be found outside in her yard tending to every corner of it or sitting on her patio admiring all her hard work.

She will be remembered by her two sons, Larry Dale Hicks and Michael Allen (Karen) Hicks; three grandchildren, Lindsey (Ryan) Sadler, Hailey (Jay) New and Dustin (Hanea) Hicks; six great-grandchildren, Landon Sadler, Paisley, Holden and Anistyn New, Harper and Miles Hicks; two step-grandchildren, Jeannie (Eddie) Martin and Julie (Jeff) Elmore; four step-great-grandchildren, Kailey New, Ashley (Lance) Luginbill, Jared (Jane) Martin and Amanda Martin; and one sister Martha Jerrell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dale Hicks; a daughter-in-law, Aleta Hicks; a brother, Earl Lindsey; and a sister, Rose Ray.

Private graveside services will be held at the Jonesboro Cemetery in Jonesboro. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes are available at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
