Jeri John Walker

Jeri John Walker, 66, of Cobden, died suddenly at home on Oct. 31, 2020. He was born on March 25, 1954, the son of Ann E. Walker.

He graduated from Cobden High School in 1972. 

He married Julie Smith on Aug. 18, 1979, in Alto Pass. 

He had several jobs before fulfilling his desire to be a truck driver. Even in retirement he was still driving his beloved black dump truck “Monique.” He was loved by all who knew him. 

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Julie of Cobden; a daughter, Emily (Felipe) Rafael; a granddaughter, Ava Grace Rafael, all of Cobden; twin sister Jana (Bob) Bateman of Murphysboro; his mother-in-law, Geneva Smith of Anna; a sister-in-law, Ellen (Charlie) Sharpe of Lake of Egypt; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many, many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his mother and by a special uncle, Ben Walker.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, today, at the Cobden Cemetery, with Jason Forby officiating. Interment will immediately follow. 

Friends can call from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, today, at the Cobden Cemetery. 

Everyone who is attending will be required to wear a face covering and to observe social distancing guidelines.
