Jeffrey Wayne Boyd

Jeffrey Wayne Boyd, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at his home. The son of Joe E. and D. Katherine Dusch Boyd, he was born on May 8, 1953, in Anna. He grew up and attended school in Anna, graduating from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in 1971.

He entered the U.S. Navy on March 23, 1972. He served on the USS El Paso LKA 117 and on the submarine USS Daniel Webster during his service. He received his honorable discharge on March 22, 1978, and returned to Anna.

While still in the service, he married Trena Dillow on June 14, 1975, in Anna. The couple made their first home in Groton, Conn. They moved back to Anna, which is when their daughter Kimberly was born in Cape Girardeau. A short time later, the family moved to Auburn, Neb., in December of 1978. They were blessed with two more children while in Auburn, Sheryl and Andrew.

Upon moving to Auburn, Mr. Boyd began work at the Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville, Neb., as a station operator. During his time at Cooper, he served as reactor operator, senior reactor operator, shift manager and nuclear instructor. He retired in 2016 after 37 years, seven months and seven days with the plant.

He enjoyed woodworking, more in the line of carpentry rather than smaller scale projects, He was a fix-it guy and liked to tinker with electronics also. He was an avid reader in his down time.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Claud and Mary Boyd and Wayne and Alice Dusch, and his father-in-law Harold “Cotton” Dillow.

Survivors include his wife, Trena, of Auburn, Neb.; daughters and son-in-law Kimberly Boyd of Coralville, Iowa, and Sheryl and Tim Thiele of Henderson, Nev.; a son, Andrew Boyd of Eureka; a granddaughter, Lillian Thiele; his parents Joe and Katherine Boyd of Anna; a sister and brother-in-law, Jenifer and Dwayne Fields of Carterville; his mother-in-law, Norma Jean Conant of Anna; a brother- and sister-in-law, Jerry and Cathy Dillow of Jonesboro; other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life visitation was held at the funeral home in Auburn, Neb., on Thursday, Jan. 18, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Family members were present throughout the day to reminisce and listen to stories about Mr. Boyd.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with Bill Littrell officiating. Interment was in the Anna Cemetery.

Graveside military rites were conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Navy funeral honor detail.

Memorials can be made to the Open Door Mission in Omaha, Neb., or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
