James 'Jim' Paul Miles
James “Jim” Paul Miles, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Miles was born on Aug. 22, 1942, in Chicago.
He married Dorothy “Dottie” Mae Wilson on June 10, 1989, in Anna. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2018.
Mr. Miles is survived by his nieces, Luanne Burdick and husband Michael of Grand Tower and Carla Carroll and husband Chris of Du Quoin; great-nieces and nephews Sarah and Shane Burdick and Della and Christopher Carroll; and a brother-in-law, Carl Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Mr. Miles received his master’s degree at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
He worked as a history professor at Shawnee Community College for many years. He also taught horticulture classes at the Vienna Correctional Center.
Mr. Miles was very involved in the Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge. He served on the lodge’s board of directors and as chaplain.
He was an avid Civil War buff and loved watching St. Louis Cardinals games.
A Celebration of Life was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge.
Memorials may be made to the Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge.
