Henry Colson

Henry Colson, 78, of Carbondale, and formerly of Makanda, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, at Integrity Healthcare in Marion. 

He was born on April 10, 1940, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., the son of Lonnie and Opal Crowe Colson. 

He married Ethel R. “Dolly” Hagler on March 9, 1960, in Carbondale. She preceded him in death on Aug. 14, 2016.

Mr. Coleson is survived by his children, Virgil (Tabatha) Colson of Johnston City, Steve (Patsy) Colson of Jonesboro, Russell (Kelly) Colson of Cambria, Diane (Dennis) Nance of Cobden and John (Tammy) Colson of Makanda; 15 grandchildren, Brandon Nance, Tasha Williams, Michael Colson, Crystal Inchcliff, Carmen, Josh and Caleb Colson, Kellen Colson, Staff Sgt. Joseph Colson, Tracy Thompson, Stacy Kelley, Carla Burnett, Tanner and Nathan Cruse and Kimberlee Klump; nine great-grandchildren, Silas Gwaltney, Caden and Bryson Inchcliff, Troy Williams, Angel Colson, Xander Smith, Aiden, Bentley and Raelynn Colson; two sisters, Bertha Mae Fulk of Carterville and Pearl J. Billips of Jonesboro, Ark.; a brother, Billy Joe Colson of Vienna; other relatives and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel R “Dolly” Colson; and two brothers, Kenny and Lonnie Colson.

Mr. Colson was a member of the Makanda Baptist Church for many years. He spent his life farming. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. 

Throughout his life Henry was surrounded by his friends and family, always ready for a cup of coffee and a good laugh. During his final weeks he was still surrounded by friends and family.

Funeral services for Henry Colson will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, today, at Makanda Baptist Church, with the  Rev. Ivan Ryan, Joshua Colson and Dennis Nance officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Memorials can be made to the funeral home.
