Hazel Lee May Carter
Hazel Lee May Carter, 91, of Tamms, died at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at the home of her granddaughter in Olive Branch.
She was born on June 12, 1926, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of James Cecil and Willa Lois McDonald May.
She married Frank Carter on Jan. 4, 1941.
She worked in the family business, Carter Motor Sales, until 1972. Then she worked as a cook for ACBL and Luhr Bros. Barge Company.
She is survived by her son, Benny Carter; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Kay Carter; grandchildren Donna (Darren) Bigham, Tim Slapinkski, Bobby (Cindy) Johnson, Stacy Ann Carter, Tina Lee Amb, Deanna Carter and Benjamin Carter; 13 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Carter; two daughters, Pat Burkepile and Betty Lou Carter; a grandson, Ricky Lynn; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Kenneth, Homer and Jack; and four sisters, Laura Belle, Annalois, Helen and Geraldine.
A celebration of life was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms with family and friends sharing memories of Hazel. Interment followed in Jonesboro City Cemetery.
Crain Funeral Home in Tamms was in charge of arrangements.
