H. E. ‘Buck’ Kroeger

H.E. “Buck” Kroeger, 85, of Cobden, and formerly of Anna, died Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Union County Hospital in Anna. 

He was born on March 27, 1933, in DuBois, the son of Ernest Edward and Lena Lenona Dober Kroeger. 

He married Carol Norris on Sept. 6, 1953, in Old Du Quoin Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Kroeger of Cobden; a daughter, Susan (Steve) Farner of Marion; two grandchildren, Christopher (Jillian) Treece and Carly Barrick; one great-grandson, Noah Treece; step-great-grandchildren Hunter Gibb, Sloane Swan and Stellan Swan; other relatives and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Kenton Barrick; a brother, Robert Kroeger; and his mother and father-in-law, John W. (Blanche) Norris.

He was of the Protestant faith. He worked several years in the heating and refrigeration maintenance department at Southern Illinois University. He was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union No. 160 in Murphysboro. 

He was also a member of the St. Louis Polka Club, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the NRA and he had a private pilot’s license. 

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Funeral services for Buck Kroeger were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Les Sinks officiating. 

Interment was in Casper Cemetery near Anna. Military rites were conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard funeral honors team of Marion. 

Memorials can be made to the Illinois Veterans Home activity fund.
