Georgia ‘Maude’ Sides

Georgia Maude Sides, 82, of Anna, died at 6:07 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at Baptist Health in Paducah.

She was born on Sept. 5, 1935, in Carbondale, the daughter of Clarence H. and Anna Mae Heininger Davis.

She married George Henry Sides on June 1, 1957. They shared 52 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 2009.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Jim) Walker of Anna; “grandma’s boy”, Brandon (Heather) Craig and granddaughter, Maelin Walker, all of Anna; two great-granddaughters, Kansas and Kaegan Craig; one sister, Anna Rose Davis of Murphysboro; three brothers, Fred (Donna) Davis of Murphysboro, Jim (Faith) Davis of Herrin and Donald Davis (friend Kerry) of Murphysboro; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, George H. Sides.

She was a dedicated member of the Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna. She enjoyed coordinating the entertainment for the Young at Heart at the church. She loved to sing, sew and work in her flower gardens in her spare time. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-granddaughters, and she loved spending time with them.

She began her working career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1980, and retired as postmaster in the late 1990s. She was a member of the Mary Martha Club in Makanda, the National Postmaster Association and was the former president of the Makanda Women’s Club.

Memorial services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Anna Heights Baptist Church, with Pastor Darryl Williams officiating.
