George R. Modglin

George R. Modglin died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, at Baptist Health in Paducah, surrounded by his family. 

He was born on Jan. 17, 1935, in Pulaski County, the son of Henry H. and Cledia Edwards Modglin. 

Mr. Modglin was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer in Ullin, along with his brother Bill. Together, they also did wood construction and carpentry remodeling and additions for numerous residents around the Ullin area. 

Mr. Modglin served on many agriculture and civic boards throughout his life, including the Century School Board and the ASCS office in Mounds. 

He was always called on for his thoughts and opinions, as his calm and sensible demeanor served him well in making or changing policies and guidelines on the committees on which he served.

He also was an avid crocheter, a skill his mother taught him at a young age. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, gardening and collecting arrowheads and Case pocket knives. He also was an excellent cook and artist. 

He is survived by his life partner, Norma Wiseman of Metropolis; his daughter, Dianne Droge and her fiancé Tim Timpone of High Ridge, Mo.; his son, George Modglin Jr. and his partner Jake Stuckemeyer of Ullin; special friends Kyle, Amy and Bentley Pfaff of Olmsted; grandsons Danny Droge of Anna and Mason Modglin of Cobden; sisters-in-law Carolyn Modglin of Ullin, Kay Dalponte of Highland Park, Cathy and Herb Garrey of Lake Forest and Nancy, Tom Kiddle of Naples, Fla., and Pam and Doug Inglish of Maryville, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Mike Smith of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a special uncle-in-law, Grant Taylor and Wilma; several nieces and nephews. 

He also is grieved by Norma’s side of the family, who considered him as their second dad and grandpa, including Merlene (Don) Jackson, Cheri (Daniel) Thompson, Linda Weatherbee, Adam (Monica) Jackson, Clara and Jane, David Jackson, Aaron (Katie) Jackson, Naomi, Josiah and Hannah, Joshua (Samantha) Marberry, Jessica (Taylor) Wiater, Rinoa, Kerstie (Justin) Moss, Maddox and Aiden and Tanner Weather. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Modglin; brothers Bill and Henry and his wife Almeta Modglin, Clinton Modglin; and sisters, Minnie, Edith and Althea; as well as his parents. 

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin, with the Rev. Clint Nale officiating. Interment was in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.
