Fred Douglas

Fred Douglas, 95, of Dongola, died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at his residence.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1922, in Sidell, the son of Thomas and Myrl Cleo Butts Douglas.

He married Virginia Lawrence on Oct. 26, 1946. She preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 2013.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After returning from his service, he worked for five years for Wayne Osman Produce. He worked for 35 years as a custodian and bus driver for Dongola School. He was a member of the Wetaug Church of Christ.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Linda Douglas of Tunnel Hill; a grandson, Thomas Walter “TW” Douglas of Tunnel Hill; a step-granddaughter, Julie (Jason) Hammond of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters Erma Turner of Morris, and Oma Foehr of Alpharetta, Ga.; friend and caregiver Judy Cohin of Dongola; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rick Douglas; a sister, Esther Fisher; and a brother, Stanley Douglas.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola, with Pastor Tim Heinecke officiating. Interment followed in Christian Chapel Cemetery in Dongola. Full military honors were accorded by the VFW’s Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 in Anna and the Illinois honor guard.
