Everett Gene Varner

Everett Gene Varner, 83, of Tamms, died at 5:16 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1937, in Olive Branch, the son of Dorothy Hill Story.

He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired supervisor of maintenance for Egyptian School District. He was president of Modern Woodmen of America.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and by a sister, Shirley Morris.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Varner of Tamms; a son, Tim Varner of Tamms; a daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Jeff Farris of Thebes; grandchildren Lance (Carla) Farris of St. Louis and Bonnie Farris of Portland, Ore.; a great-granddaughter, Emilia Joy Farris; two sisters, Betty Jordan of Grand Tower and Anna Davis of Benton; other relatives and friends.

Private family services will be held. Inurnment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola. Full military honors will be accorded by the Scott Air Force Base burial team and area veterans.
