Evelyn Brayley

Evelyn Brayley, 97, of Anna, and formerly of Sylacauga, Ala., died at 3:10 a.m. on Jan. 26, 2018, at Jonesboro Rehab.

She was born on Feb. 23, 1920, in Sylacauga, Ala., the daughter of James and Omie Jane Lackey Pitts.

She married Charles Brayley in May of 1940. He preceded her in death in April 1986.

She worked as a beautician while in high school and as a store clerk in Chicago for over 20 years. She retired and moved back to her hometown of Sylacauga, Ala., in 1979. After many years in Chicago, she enjoyed her time back home. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Sylacauga, Ala.

She is survived by her children, Charlene (Ken) Potts of Anna, Jim (Beverly) Brayley of Concord, N.C., and Evelyn Inskeep of Virginia Beach, Va.; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elise Weldon of Sylacauga, Ala.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Thomas Inskeep; two brothers, Buel and Herbert Pitts; and two infant siblings.

Visitation will be Thursday, today, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Sylacauga, Ala., and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, at the church, with the Rev. Jack Lee officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the First Assembly of God Church in Sylacauga, Ala., and will be accepted at the church.
