Dorothy Virginia Pirtle Gibbs

Dorothy Viriginia Pirtle Gibbs, of Mounds, died on her 92nd birthday, April 26, 2021, at 5:39 p.m. at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born on April 26, 1929, in Sandusky, the daughter of Oliver A. “Gus” and Essie Mize McClellan Sr.

She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Cairo and TIP of Illinois Health Services Inc. for 14 years. She attended Smiles Senior Center in Mounds.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence H. Pirtle Jr. in June 1970, William “Bill” Cameron and Paul Gibbs; and by three brothers, Carl and Oliver “Junior” and Owen McClellan.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Marylyn Pirtle of Champaign; sisters Marie Foster of Marion, Marilea Bagby of Centralia and Louise Newell of Pulaski; granddaughters Katherine (John) De Leon and Amy (James) Pirtle-Carey; great-grandchildren Brooklyn Carey and Ronin De Leon; other relatives and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 30, at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge. The Rev. Larry Buckles to officiate with interment following.
