Dorothy M. Gulledge
Dorothy M. Gulledge, 92, of Cobden, died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at Integrity Healthcare in Anna.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1925, in Pomona, the daughter of Charles and Hattie Mae Anderson Thompson.
She married William Howard Gulledge on Nov. 20, 1941, in Jackson, Mo., and together they shared 34 years of marriage before his death on July 1, 1976.
She is survived by her two grandchildren, Eric Gulledge of Cobden and Jamie Gulledge of Anna; two great-grandchildren, Cody Gulledge and Brody Owen Gulledge; a brother-in-law, Gary (Beverly) Gulledge of Cobden; nieces and nephews Erica Gulledge of Carterville, Angela Gulledge of Cobden, Brenda Loveless of Jonesboro, Tony Thompson of Anna, Tracey Woodall of Metropolis and Allison and Alex Stout both of Buncombe; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Howard Gulledge; a daughter, Barbara Ann Gulledge; one brother and sister-in-law, Norman Edward and Dorothy Thompson; and one sister, Alma Thompson.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cobden for many years. She worked for the Florsheim Heel Factory in Anna and later opened a daycare, caring for numerous children throughout the county. She dearly loved all the children she was able to care for over the years. For years, she and her friends had daily gatherings at the Dairy Queen in Anna, she loved the fellowship they shared in her “own” booth. She enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gulledge were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Jerry King officiating. Interment was in the Cobden Cemetery.
