Dorothy L. Hawkins Smiddy

Dorothy L. Hawkins Smiddy, 98, of Jonesboro, died on April 24, 2020, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center. 

She was born on June 24, 1921, in Reynoldsville, the daughter of Amos and Josephine Cavaness Hawkins. 

She married Charles D. Smiddy on Sept. 15, 1956. He preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1998.

Mrs. Smiddy is survived by her son, Michael (Karen) Smiddy of Hamilton, Ohio; daughter Anita Bonser of Port O’Connor, Texas; son Phil Smiddy of Republic, Mo.; grandchildren Danielle (Jamie) Shepard of Dexter, Mo., Christopher Smiddy of Cape Girardeau, Michelle Warner of Fayetteville, Ohio, Mark (Janet) Smiddy, Shelly (Jerry) Halbrook, Greg (Debbie) Smiddy, Christina Smiddy and Ken (Connie) Hall; great-granddaughter Amaya Shepard of Dexter; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles D. Smiddy; daughter Sue Houseman; grandson Keith Smiddy; six brothers, Claude, Paul, Earl, Walter, George and Edgar; and three sisters, Grace, Mae and Geneva.

Mrs. Smiddy worked many years at the Florsheim Shoe Company in St. Louis. She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Her family was the most important part of her life.

Private graveside services will be held for her immediate family. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes will be available at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
