Donna Jo Cavness

Donna Jo Cavness, 61, of rural Murphysboro, and formerly of Wolf Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at her home. 

She was born on Jan. 19, 1958, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Walter “Walt” and Margaret Gregory Cavness. 

She is survived by her daughter, Cassandra (Jeff) Hanson of Cobden; a son, Derek (Cheryl) Hanson of Grand Tower; one brother; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; many nieces and nephews; her extended Sauer family; other relatives and many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Walt Cavness; her mother, Margaret Bray; two brothers, Roger and Kenny; and three sisters, Pat, Linda and Jane. 

She served in the U.S. Army National Guard and later in the reserves. 

She had owned and operated the Duck Inn in Wolf Lake since 2003. She was a fun-loving person and always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved fishing, riding horses and being outdoors. 

Funeral services were at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Jack Thorton and Peggy Camp officiating. 

Military rites were conducted at the funeral home by the VFW’s Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of Anna and the National Guard funeral honor team of Marion.

Memorials can be made to the Methodist Church in Wolf Lake or to Sandra’s Comfort Care.
