Derek Thomas Harvell

Derek Thomas Harvell, 25, of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022. 

He was born on Dec. 10, 1996, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Darryl and Diane Moreland Harvell.

He is survived by his parents; a sister, Jessica (Khyle) Dean; nieces and nephew Aria, Brigham and Adaley Dean; his grandmother, Dorothy Harvell; aunts and uncles Brian and Bruce Moreland, Terri and Tom Pinnick and Donna and Kenny Brumleve; other relatives and many friends.

A graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School and Southeast Missouri State University, Derek touched many lives as a classmate, soccer player, coach and friend. He was assistant soccer coach at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. 

He enjoyed writing and reading. He was an animal lover and avid gardener. He had a genuine love for the environment and all creatures. He was a member of the Arbor Day Foundation. Derek will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services for Derek Harvell will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with Bill Littrell officiating. Interment will follow at the Jonesboro Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. 

Memorials can be made to Union County Animal Control or to the Anna-Jonesboro Soccer Program.
