DeAnna L. Spurlock

DeAnna L. Spurlock, 82, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and formerly Carey, Ohio,  passed away peacefully at Independence House in Fostoria, Ohio.

She was born in Anna, on Nov. 17, 1939, the daughter of Dorris “Hank” and Gladys Murphy Hankla.  

She attended Anna-Jonesboro Community High School, graduating in 1957.  

While in school, DeAnna met Ted B. Spurlock and they quickly became high school sweethearts. Shortly after graduation, the two were married on DeAnna’s birthday in 1957. Ted passed away on Oct. 20, 2012.  

DeAnna and Ted moved to Carey, Ohio, in 1972, when Ted found employment with The Essex Company.  

While living in Carey, DeAnna and Ted raised three children and took countless trips to Southern Illinois to visit family and friends.   

DeAnna was never able to sit still. Any chance she had she would be off with her family or friends to Amish Country and could be found eating out. She also was a bingo player and loved to visit casinos.   

Above all, she loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She made sure no one went hungry and was family famous for her chicken dumplings and homemade noodles.  

Being a woman of faith, she was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky.   

Survivors include her children, Tammy (Bob) Buckland of Carey, Todd (Jill) Spurlock of Findlay, and Tim (Connie) Spurlock of Carey; grandchildren Keith (Maranda) Spurlock, Molly (Adam) Beach, Amber Spurlock, Ben (Kortney) Buckland, Bobbi (Brian “Pete”) Thompson, Kelly (Joe) Weber and Alexa (PJ) Spayde; great-grandchildren Graham, Abel, CeCe, Violet, Charley, Bralin, Baylor, Claire and Ada; first cousins, Ron (Janice) Garner and family of Anna and Barb (Charley) Hileman and family of Evansville, Ind. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Jeff Hankla.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Stombaugh Batton Funeral Home in Carey, Ohio, with the Rev. Kathleen Shuck officiating.  

Burial will take place in August in Casper Cemetery near Anna.

Memorials can be made to the Casper Cemetery flower fund.
