David R. Veldhouse
David R. Veldhouse, 71, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and formerly of Morristown, Tenn., and Kansas City, Mo., was born on Nov. 22, 1947, in Humboldt, Iowa, and died on March 23, 2019.
He graduated from Humboldt High School in Humboldt, Iowa, in 1966.
He was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971. He was a life member of VFW Post No. 5266 in Morristown, Tenn., and a member of the American Legion Post 103 in Punta Gorda, Fla.
He retired in 2001 after working as a civilian for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Kansas City, Mo., for 20 years.
He and his wife, Pat, spent some of their retirement years touring and enjoying the Southeast in their RV while also visiting their children, grandchildren and other family members. After spending 12 years as “snowbirds” in Florida, they finally became permanent residents of Punta Gorda, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Patsy J. (Baker) Veldhouse; two sons, Scott (Paula) Veldhouse, of Bloomfield, Neb., and Todd (Tammy) Veldhouse, of Grundy Center, Iowa; three stepchildren, Jeffrey (Ruth) Ridenhour, of Hayes, Va., Deborah (David) Taylor, of Springfield, Mo., and Sheri (Jeff) Hensley, of Morristown, Tenn.; a sister, Janice Holmes, of St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Jerry Veldhouse, of Raytown, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Angela (John) Bryant, of Ullin, Kathy Lentz (Rick Love), of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Tonia (Kim) Capel, of Anna; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends from various locations in the United States and Canada.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Faith Veldhouse.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin. Memorial services will begin at 4 p.m. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Ullin Cemetery.
