Clarissa ‘Chris’ Upshaw

Clarissa “Chris” Upshaw, age 71, of Cairo, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2021, at her daughter’s residence in Cairo.

She was born on Jan. 31, 1950, in Cairo, the daughter of David Pete and Florine Edmonds Davis.

She and her husband, Howard owned and operated Chris’ Café north of Cairo for 35 years. She was also a beautician at Barbara’s Beauty Shop in Cairo. 

She was a member of Mighty Rivers Worship Center in Cairo. She was a member of the Cairo VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Upshaw, on Jan. 28, 2019; her daughter, Tammy Green; grandson Tim Upshaw; brothers Mike and Ron Davis; and a sister, Joyce Bigham.

Survivors include her son, Ron Upshaw of Marion; two daughters, Joyce Calvert and husband Jerry of Cairo, and Jackie Caldwell and husband Charlie of Cairo; two brothers, Eddie and Grancy Davis, both of Marion; a sister, Della Freeman of Wickliffe, Ky.; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, at the Mighty Rivers activity center in Cairo, with the Rev. Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating.
