Clarence Ray Aldridge

Clarence Ray Aldridge, 81, of Anna, died at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

He was born on June 27, 1936, in East St. Louis, the son of Clarence Franklin and Edna Estelle Pearson Aldridge.

He married LaVonne Mears on Sept. 2, 1978, in Cobden.

He served in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a correctional officer from the Menard Correctional Center. He was a member of the Anna Moose Lodge. He loved to travel, hunt and fish. He was an avid Cardinals baseball fan.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne Aldridge of Anna; a son, Clarence Jeffrery (Nancy) Aldridge of St. Charles, Mo.; a daughter, Sheila Shadowens-Yates and husband Larry Yates of Cobden; five grandchildren, Bronson, Clarence Brandon, Kelli Jo, Sarah and Clarence Michael; eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Skylin, Jayden, Patricia, Clarence Jackson, Katelyn, Kinnley and Brayden; a brother-in-law, Wayne (Janet) Mears of Anna; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Donny) Buntin of Perks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by three sisters, Juanita, Bonita and Lela Mae.

Funeral services for Clarence Ray Aldridge were at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Interment was in the Cobden Cemetery, with Pastor Mike Sharp officiating. Graveside military rites were conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the U.S. Navy funeral honor detail.
