Charlotte Chavan Grant
Charlotte Chavan Grant, 89, of Coulterville, and formerly of Olive Branch, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehab.
Charlotte Chavan Grable was born on Feb. 3, 1935, in Cairo, the daughter of Charles and Minnie Grable.
She grew up and attended 12 years of school in Mounds. She graduated from Mounds Township High School as Valedictorian of her class in 1953, and went on to graduate from Gradwohl School of Laboratory Technology in St. Louis, Mo.
She was employed as a medical technologist in various hospitals and clinics, such as the state of Illinois Public Health Department. She worked for several years at the State Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Mt. Vernon and the public health laboratory in Carbondale.
In her later years, she chose to be a private in-home caregiver, a position that turned out to be very satisfying and rewarding, resulting in many lasting friendships.
Charlotte Chavan (Grable) Grant was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, where she was active and served on many committees and held offices, including treasurer of the Olive Branch Church, for several years. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, former president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Alexander/Pulaski Country Sportsmen Club.
Charlotte and Seldon Grant were married on Nov. 3, 1956, at the Mounds Methodist Church, and became the parents of Kenneth Eldon and Bradley Keith Grant.
She is survived by sister-in-law, Pamela Timm and husband Robert of St. Charles; and special friends Paul and Debbie Queen, who have done so much to help.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Seldon, who passed away in 2011; son Kenneth Eldon, who passed away in 1975; son Bradley Keith, who passed away in 2023; brothers Charles and Clarence Grable; and sisters Dorothy Tolbert, Hazel Bonifield, Shirley Dishinger and Barbara Ann Verble.
She was loved and will be remembered by numerous friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Brent Gordon officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.
