Charles W. Harwell

Charles W. Harwell, 84, of Anna, died Thursday, July 11, 2019, at his home. 

He was born on Oct. 20, 1934, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, the son of Willie D. and Eleanor Redfearn Harwell. 

He married his true love, Jennifer West, in 1978 in Mobile, Ala.

Mr. Harwell is survived by his wife, Jennifer Harwell of Anna; a sister, Betty Ballew of Texas; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

He was a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and later the Princeton School of Divinity. 

He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister and served for many years as the chaplain at Louisiana State University. 

He later turned to teaching, finishing his career as a teacher in English and writing in South Alabama. He was an accomplished author, publishing three textbooks and various other works.

He was a lifelong tennis player. He and his wife Jennifer were active in the University Community Theater, both enjoying acting and participating for many years. 

A celebration of his life was held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, July 15, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial remembrances began at 5 p.m. 

Memorials can be made to Trinity University. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed directly to Trinity University at 1 Trinity Place, San Antonio, Texas 78212.
