Charles Ray 'Chuck' Baggett

Charles Ray “Chuck” Baggett, 62, of Centralia, died at 4:43 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2019, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1956, in Christopher, the son of Clarence Edward and Kay Frances Brown Baggett.  

He married Janet “Beth” Payne in 1990 in Sandoval, and they later divorced.

Mr. Baggett is survived by his sons, Jourdan “Jordy” Baggett of Centralia and Ryan Edward Baggett of Centralia; a sister, Kimberly Gammon of Carlyle; nephews Hunter Gammon of Posey and Fisher Gammon of Carlyle; an aunt, Helen Mae Baxter of Lake of the Ozark, Mo.; many cousins, including Danny Freyenberger and wife Karen of Carterville and Vicky Roe of Centralia; second cousins Bobby Roe of Centralia and Kyle Roe of Centralia; a special friend, Loretta Thompson of Centralia; and best friend Marty Williams of Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Baggett and Kay Baggett.

Mr. Baggett attended Temple Baptist Church in Centralia.

He loved his mother very much as he would visit her, call her to check on her and take trips with her.  He cherished the time spent with his family, especially his sons.  Every time he would see his sons, he would ask, “How is Granny doing?”  

Chuck was a very social person as he was always seen drinking coffee and visiting with others at Fireside House. He enjoyed the time with his friends, going out with them to eat at their favorite restaurants.  

He knew no strangers and would take the time to talk with everyone.  He was a very loving and caring person, thinking of others and giving to others, especially with organ donation being his last earthly mission.  

He was known by his family to be very stubborn and bull-headed and he liked to always get his way.  He was a big fan of Elvis Presley. 

Mr. Baggett was a product assembler at the Kaskaskia Workshop in Centralia. Earlier in life, he was employed at Cater Vend in Centralia. 

He graduated with Pinckneyville High School’s “Class of 1974.”  He lived his whole life in Centralia.

Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Baggett will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Temple Baptist Church in Centralia, with Pastor Ronnie Tabor officiating.  

Private family inurnment for Mr. Baggett and Mrs. Kay F. Baggett, who died on Jan. 28, 2018, will follow at the Cobden Cemetery in Cobden.  

Memorials can be made to the Fireside House activities fund and will be received at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 S. Elm St., Centralia, Ill. 62801.
