Charles G. Bridges

Charles G. Bridges, 84, of Granite City, and formerly of Tamms, died at 3:28 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Bridges was born on June 17, 1935, in Elco, the son of Virgil S. and Gladys Jones Bridges.

On Feb. 26, 1955, he married Sheila Ann Huffman. She preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1994.

He worked at the Laclede Steel Mill in Granite City for over 40 years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his first wife; and by two brothers, George “Bud” Bridges and William Bridges.

Survivors include his wife, Lavonne Bridges of Granite City; a son, Kenny (Becky) Bridges of Granite City; a stepson, Steven (Becky) Essex of Tamms; and several step-grandchildren.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus and by the signing of the executive order by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, funeral services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, following private visitation at Jones Funeral Home Tamms. Pastor Brent Gordon officiated. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola.
