Carolyn D. Rogers-Hickam

Carolyn D. Rogers-Hickam, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, at the Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau. 

She was born in Anna on Nov. 12, 1937, the daughter of Lester and Gladys Tripp Davis. 

She married Allen Rogers on Nov. 16, 1956; he was the love of her life. She later married Jesse Hickam, who survives her and lives at the Anna Veteran’s Home. 

She is survived by her daughter, Becky Livesay who is married to Darrell Ralls; granddaughter Magen Livesay of Anna; sister Nancy (Terry) Brown of Carbondale; nephews Dr. Ted (Laura) Brown of Water Color, Fla., and Drs. Treg and (Karla) Brown of Carbondale; niece Sherma Boner of Jonesboro; stepdaughters, Belinda Hickam-Smith and Joyce Stout and stepson Roger Hickam. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Allen Rogers; and son-in-law Mark Livesay.

She grew up in Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church where she played the piano and organ. She was a current member of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Anna.

Carolyn attended Union University in Jackson, Tenn.,  later transferring to Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Her first teaching job was in a one-room school in Mill Creek, followed by a two room school in Mt. Pleasant. From there she taught 4th grade at Lincoln School in Anna. She loved children and teaching was her passion. The families of her students still share stories of how they loved her. 

Carolyn later joined the family shoe business, eventually opening Rogers Shoe Store in Vienna. She loved her customers and provided such a warm and welcoming atmosphere for their shopping. 

Carolyn was a member of P.A.S.T. (Promoting Appreciation of Structural Treasures). She was a former Republican precinct committeewoman. 

Private graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 6, at the Jonesboro Cemetery, with Pastor David Fischler officiating.
