Carl Eugene Powers Sr., 54, of Anna, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

He was a truck driver most of his life. He enjoyed working on engines ever since he was a young boy. He loved to hear the roar of a diesel engine. One of his goals was to put his hand in the Pacific Ocean and to drive across the country and put his hand in the Atlantic Ocean, which he was able to do. When his granddaughters started driving and had a problem, they always ran to grandpa, saying “grandpa can you look at my car?”

He loved woodworking and was an avid reader and member of the NRA. He was a kind and caring person who would help anyone having trouble. He was a patient teacher, and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Alto Pass Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Interment was in the Alto Pass Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
