Bonnie Lou Duty White

Bonnie Lou Duty White, 85, of Cobden, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, at Nature Trail Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon. 

She was born on Sept. 7, 1935, in Jackson County, the daughter of Alvie and Mildred Viola King Duty. 

She married Amos O. White on Oct. 18, 1998. He preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 2004.

She is survived by her daughters, Aleta (Scott Sr.) Uhls of Dahlgren and Valery (Kevin) Burns of Mounds; her grandchildren, Scott (Samantha) Uhls Jr., Avery (Candy) Sprehe, Jason (Amber) Sprehe, Dezmen Biggs and Aaron (Jasmine Coomes) Uhls; great-grandchildren Eli Zane Sprehe, Jesse Manning, Kierston and Hailey Uhls; her brothers, Bud (Donna) Duty, Joe (Ellen) Duty, Francis Duty and Ronnie (Mildred) Duty; a sister-in-law, Ann Kleiboeker of Centralia; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Gerald, Wayland and Ivan Duty; and a sister, Lois Stacey.

She was a Christian and a devout member of the First Baptist Church in Cobden. 

She retired from Illinois Bell Telephone after 24 years of service. She was an avid gardener. She had been a manager of the Carbondale farmer’s market. 

She also enjoyed bird watching, and she especially loved her finches. She also liked to collect angels.

Funeral services for Bonnie Lou Duty White will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden, with Pastor Ed Falgout officiating. Interment will follow in the Alto Pass Cemetery. 

Friends may call after 1 p.m. until the service hour at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, at the funeral home in Cobden. 

Everyone attending will be required to wear face coverings and to observe social distancing guidelines. Maximum occupancy of the building will be limited to 50 persons at one time. 

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church in Cobden or to SSM Health Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
