Billy Gene Turner
Billy Gene Turner, 84, of Olmsted, died at 8:28 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah.
Mr. Turner was born on Dec. 16, 1937, in Villa Ridge, the son of Fred and Cecelia Marie Bergfeld Turner.
On Dec. 20, 1958, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Olmsted, he married Marilyn Mayer.
He served in the Illinois National Guard and Reserves. Mr. Turner retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections after 29 years as a sergeant. He served as a deputy for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.
He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Turner was a lifetime member of Caledonia Masonic Lodge N. 47 AF & AM. He was a member of the Southern Illinois Police Association, a member of the Illinois Sheriff’s Association and a member of the Illinois Police Association.
He enjoyed going to auctions, flea markets, antiques, traveling and cruises. He enjoyed going to the local coffee shop with his friends. He owned and operated BG’s Antiques in Olmsted for 15-plus years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Carl (Freda) Turner, Della (Sam) Johnson and Frieda Ella (William) Ervin; a brother-in-law, Delbert (Janette) Mayer; nephew, Louie Johnson; and a niece, Brenda (Bob) Daniels.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marilyn Turner; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were at noon Tuesday, April 5, at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge. The Rev. Buddy Walls officiated.
Interment followed in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.
