Betty Severs

Betty Severs, 87, died at 4:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at the Union County Hospital Long Term Care Facility in Anna.

She was born on March 28, 1929, in Carbondale, the daughter of Abraham and Virginia Jennings Crawshaw.

She married Robert Holder on Nov. 10, 1945, in Pocahontas, Ark. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1976. From this marriage they had one child, Jeff Holder.

Betty later married Wayne Severs and he preceded her in death. Her loving companion for many years, Charles Lasley, also preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 2014.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Holder of Carbondale; a niece, Sharon (Jim) Fielding of Floral City, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Sue Hogue of Chipley, Fla.; and the Lasley family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a brother, Norman Crawshaw; a sister, Edith “Sis” Hickson; and her longtime companion, Charles Lasley.

She worked as a bookkeeper for E.T. Simonds in Carbondale for many years. She and her longtime companion, Charles, were well known daily at the Anna McDonald’s. Every Saturday at 9 a.m. extended family would join them for breakfast. She loved being outside and could always be found working in the yard or her garden.

Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 11, at 1:30 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. John Annable officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.

Memorials can be made to the activity fund at either Union County Hospital Long Term Care Facility or the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.
