Betty Mattheis

Betty Mattheis, 93, of Anna, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, at Union County Hospital in Anna. 

She was born on Nov. 2, 1927, in Jonesboro, the daughter of Glenn and Ruth Lyerly Ury. 

She married Glenn “Brother” Mattheis on June 5, 1949, in Jonesboro. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2004.  

She was baptized as a teenager at Jonesboro Baptist Church. After her marriage she then attended the First Presbyterian Church. 

She was a graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in the class of 1945. She was a member of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority and also was a member of the Friends of Stinson Library. 

She is survived by her children, Debbie Mattheis of Anna and Mark (Melanie) Mattheis of Jonesboro; grandchildren Elizabeth Sarka, Sarah, Anna and Jonathan Mattheis; other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn “Brother” Mattheis; and brothers Harold, Roy and Joe Ury.

Graveside funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the Anna City Cemetery, with the Rev. David Fischler officiating. Interment followed the service. 

Memorials can be made to the Women’s Association of the First  Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
