Arthur L. ‘Art’ Houseman

Arthur L. “Art” Houseman, 77, of Lick Creek, died Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Herrin Hospital. 

He was born on March 23, 1940, in Union County, the son of Ray H. and Cora Ellen Glasco Houseman. 

He married Lillie Rider on Nov. 23, 1974, in Dongola.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lillie Houseman of Lick Creek; children David (Lisa) Houseman of Anna, Leanna (Dale) Stanley of Arlington, Texas, Dean (Kim) Houseman, and Ed (Karla) Houseman all of Millersville, Mo., and Linda (Gary) Herron of Oregon; grandchildren James (Megan) Houseman, Michael (Megan) Houseman, Steven (Sandra) Houseman, Jesse (Megan) Houseman, Josh (Isabel) Houseman, Jared Stanley, Erin Stanley (Chris) Jacobs, Kyle and Mason Herron and Miranda Cruz; great-grandchildren Alexis, Logan, Corbin, Jace Houseman and Ezekiel “Zeke” Cruz; sisters Barbara (Fred) Pitts of Buncombe, and Judy (Morris) Hall of Cobden; brothers Don Houseman and Ed (Sherri) Houseman of Cobden; a brother-in-law, Charles Gilbert of Florida; other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Randy Gilbert; a sister, Betty Gilbert; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Houseman.      

He was a charter member of the United Missionary Baptist Church. He was dedicated to his church, teaching Sunday School there for many years. 

He was retired from the federal government as a district conservationist. He was a pilot, and loved all things aviation, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and dearly loved his dogs. In earlier years he played and coached softball and baseball.

Funeral services for Mr. Houseman were at 1 p.m. Friday, July 28, at United Missionary Baptist Church in Lick Creek, with Pastor Paul Tirey officiating. Interment was in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the United Missionary Baptist Church.
