Arthur Jay Bigler
Arthur Jay Bigler, 86, of Anna, died at 2:12 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, at Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born on July 22, 1929, in Cobden. He was the son of Arthur Joseph Bigler and Daisie Dickey Bigler.
He married Phyllis Adehl “Pam” Manus on Sept. 7, 1951, in Anna. She preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 1998.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jayn Bigler of Anna; his brother and sister-in-law, the Hon. D.D. and Midgyette Bigler of Anna; a sister-in-law, Betty Sue (Manus) Elkins of Anna; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Bigler; a sister, Kay Bigler Bacon; and a niece, Mary Beth Bacon.
He was a 1948 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School and served in the Army Reserve from 1950 to 1956. He owned Bigler Lumber Company in Anna, opening the business in 1958 and operating it until his retirement in 1993.
Mr. Bigler was an accomplished and self-taught knife maker, and for many years he competed in field trials and raised English setters and pointers. He enjoyed quail and duck hunting. He was a lifetime member of the Elks in Anna.
Memorial visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
