Ardel ‘Jack’ Hastings

Ardel “Jack” Hastings Jr., 75, of Metropolis, died Saturday morning, April 20, 2024, at his home with his family where he wanted to spend the last of his life.

He left at 6 a.m. for his fishing trip, leaving behind his wife Margaret, daughters Crystal and Heather, grandsons Matthew, Dennis, Bradyn and Tyler and great-grandson Sawyer.

He grew up in Belknap. On Jan. 19, 1968, he married Margaret McCarver and was blessed with two daughters, who blessed him again with four grandsons and one great-grandson.

Mr. Hastings worked at Mermet Grain Company, Jim’s True Value and Harrah’s Casino until his health prevented it.

He loved to fish until his death no longer allowed it. He loved spending time with his grandson, especially Bradyn, who helped his papaw with everything. He loved watching his hummingbirds, playing on his tablet and reading. He enjoyed planting flowers and gardening as his health allowed.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters Crystal and Heather; brothers Kenny (Janet) Hastings and Ronnie (Robyn) Hastings; two uncles, Francis and Martin Davault; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Sr. and Alice Davault Hastings; and a sister, Kay Helms.

Memorial services honoring the life of Ardel “Jack” Hastings will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Pastor David Wright to officiate.

Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak was in charge of arrangements.
