Woodsy Owl story book trail set at picnic grounds
In honor of Woodsy Owl’s 49th birthday, a self-guided story book trail is planned Thursday, today, through Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds in Jonesboro.
The story book trail is being presented by the U.S. Forest Service/Shawnee National Forest.
Visitors will be able to start the trail at a kiosk near the parking lot and walk along the path, reading the pages from “Woodsy’s ABCs.”
Each page highlights a letter, word, rhyming verse and prompts an action from the reader.
In addition, visitors can look for wildlife on each page in an “I-Spy” scavenger hunt.
The Forest Service shared in a news release that it is hoped the story book trail will spark an interest in reading, enjoying the outdoors and encouraging healthy outdoor physical fitness.
All are welcome to enjoy the trail and learn how we can help Woodsy Owl “Lend a Hand, Care for the Land.”
The Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds are closed from dusk to dawn daily.
