Union County public schools set to open for new year

Union County public schools plan to open their doors to students in August.

Here’s a look at plans by the county’s school districts to open the 2016-2017 academic year:

Lick Creek Community Consolidated School District No. 16

A teacher’s institute is scheduled on Thursday, Aug. 18. 

The first day for students is Friday, Aug. 19. They will dismiss early at 2:25 p.m. Aug. 19-26.

Cobden Unit School District No. 17

Thursday, Aug. 18, will be a teacher’s institute. 

Students’ will attend their first day on Friday, Aug. 19. Students will be on early dismissal at 2:05 p.m. from Aug. 19 to Sept. 5.

Anna District No. 37

A teacher’s institute is planned for Thursday, Aug. 18.

Students will return on Friday, Aug. 19. On that day, kindergarten will dismiss at 1:35 p.m. First and 2nd grades will dismiss at 2:05 p.m. Third through 6th grades will dismiss at 2:13 p.m. Seventh and 8th grades will leave at 2:17 p.m.

An open house is planned at Anna Junior High School on Thursday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m.

Jonesboro Elementary District No. 43

On Thursday, Aug. 18, there will be a teacher’s institute. Students and families are invited to an open house Thursday night from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The first day of school for students is Friday, Aug. 19. They will dismiss at 2:15 p.m. that day through Aug. 26. 

Pre-kindergarten students will begin attending on Thursday, Aug. 25.

Dongola Unit School No. 66

A teacher’s institute is scheduled Aug. 17-18 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The first day of attendance for students will be on Friday, Aug. 19. They will dismiss early at 2 p.m. Aug. 19-25.

An open house is planned for Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Anna-Jonesboro Community High School District No. 81

Teachers will report for an institute day on Thursday, Aug. 18.

Students will begin attending classes on Friday, Aug. 19. Students will be on early dismissal at 2:15 p.m. Aug. 19-26. 

Shawnee District No. 84

Aug. 17-18 is a planned teacher’s institute.

Students’ first day of school is on Friday, Aug. 19, and students will dismiss at 2:15 p.m.
