Trail Society hike planned near Simpson
The River-to-River Trail Society is planning to offer a hike on Saturday, Oct. 6.
The hike will be on trail 001T in Cove Hollow, sometimes called “the Promised Land” by rock climbers, because of the towering bluffs alongside the trail, which is near Simpson.
Hikers plan to meet at 10 a.m. at the East Trigg Trailhead parking lot, which is 1 mile north of the Trigg Observation Tower and 3 miles northeast of Simpson, Illinois. For information or directions, call 618-499-2337.
The hike is free and open to the public. The trail society said this will be a moderate hike of about 4 miles, without significant elevation changes, but is intended for people in good health who have done some walking.
The trail society said that boots or sturdy shoes and a hiking stick are recommended.
Hikers are advised to bring their own water and a snack. Hikers also are asked to not bring dogs.
