Summer camps set at Anna Arts Center

Summer camps are scheduled during June at the Shawnee Hills Arts Council’s Anna Arts Center.

The arts center is located at 125 W. Davie St. in Anna.

Information about the upcoming camps follows:

June 5-7 What is Batik? Art Camp. 9 a.m. to noon.

Batik is both an art and a craft: it is the art of decorating cloth using wax and dye. Learn the art of batik and painting a wax resistance picture.

Create a batik banner of the campers design. Tie-dye  a t-shirt.

June 10-21, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Anna Arts Center Learn Sign Language Camp.

Learn signs and incorporate your new-found knowledge into a song that will be performed at a reception on June 29, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Adults and kids 10 years and older are welcome. Cost is $50 per person for the two weeks.

Instructor Beth Schumacher loves to share the beauty of the language.  She graduated from MacMurray College with a deaf education degree. She then went straight to the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind and taught there for 13 years.

Two Sessions: June 10-14, 9 a.m. to noon; June 10-14, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Art Camp: Unleash the Artist Within. 

Art in action provides an exposure to the arts. It helps children to develop self-esteem and is an outlet for creative expression. 

On June 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., campers will host an exhibit of their work at a reception. 

Costs are $50 or three children for $120, or attend separate days for $10.

June 17-28. 9 a.m. to noon. Drama Camp.

Learn all aspects of the theater from acting on stage to designing sets. No prior drama experience is required.  

The camp is dedicated to provide affordable, accessible training for any student seriously interested in learning about the acting process, set design and lights/sounds. 

The plan is to perform a short one-act play on Friday, June 21, at 6 p.m. 

Costs are $50 or three children for $120,  attend separate days for $10.

June 17-21. 9 a.m. to noon. Arts Camp: The Next Level, Art from Recyclable Materials.

Create a 3-D sculpture out of cardboard. Campers will create impressive works of art made from recycled materials. 

On June 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the campers will host an exhibit of their work at a reception. 

Costs are $50 or three children for $120, or attend separate days for $10.
