Stinson Memorial Public Library District names Watkins as new director

Sarah Wingate Watkins has been named as the new library director of the Stinson Memorial Public Library District in Union County.

The district’s main facility is the landmark Stinson Memorial Library in Anna.

Watkins shared in an email that the library district’s board of trustees appointed her to the post in late August.

She succeeds Beth Sisler, Stinson’s children’s librarian, who had been acting as the interim director for the better part of the past year.

“As the incoming director, I look forward to working for our community to encourage access to the most relevant and timely information, introducing the love of reading to our younger generations, and creating more opportunities for continued growth for our residents,” Watkins said.

Watkins is from Anna and she is “ecstatic to be back in my hometown, particularly at the library that I learned to love reading in.”

For the past five years, she has worked as the coordinator of library services for Marion Carnegie Library.

During that time, she acquired a master’s degree in library and information science.

“I focused my studies on public library administration and ethics. It is easy to see the value of what we do when we are in that professional field, however, I look forward to getting the word out about what the modern library has to offer,” she said.

“Stinson Memorial Public Library District is in the unique position to serve such a wide variety of people in Union County.”
