Shawnee Community College president to 'pursue new avenues for students success'

On Monday night, March 4, joint statements from Dr. Peggy Bradford and the Shawnee Community College Board of Trustees were released.

The statements were released regarding Bradford’s future role with the college. Bradford is serving as the college’s president.

The joint statements follow:

In February of 2019, Dr. Peggy Bradford approached the college board regarding the possibility of shifting her current focus as President of Shawnee Community College to primarily work towards bolstering community and legislative partnerships for the college.

Dr. Bradford has proposed, and the board of trustees agrees that the best interest of the college is served through Dr. Bradford’s continued efforts to increase further the partnerships that she has been able to obtain on behalf of the students at Shawnee.

Based on this mutually agreed upon proposal, Dr. Bradford will continue to work on behalf of students at Shawnee through the remainder of her contractual obligation.

This new role requires significant absence from our campus, but the benefits of these actions are anticipated to produce positive outcomes for the students attending Shawnee Community College.

Dr. Bradford will be working within our Region as well as beyond as previously agreed upon by the Board.

President Bradford’s accomplishments as an advocate for the institution have led to many successes during her time as president.

Her accomplishments are numerous and include the opening of Extension Centers in both Cairo and Vienna, negotiating an agreement with Labor Union officials that provides critical parts of the education for apprenticeship applicants, bringing new career training opportunities such as Drone Piloting Certification, and revitalizing the Shawnee Community College Foundation.

President Bradford, commenting on the upcoming changes in her role as the president, said “I am excited about what the future holds for Shawnee Community College. We have seen many positive changes in areas of financial stability, increased community partnerships internships and additional educational agreements with four-year institutions.

“Additionally, we have also gained significant positive connections with state and local leaders that will continue to benefit student success at Shawnee College in the future.

“I am confident in the ability of the vice-presidents that we selected to maintain and continue to improve conditions on the campus of Shawnee College in my absence as I work to increase the opportunities for Shawnee.”

Speaking on behalf of The College Board of Trustees, Mike McMahan stated:

“Dr. Bradford’s ability to reach into the legislative community to seek out support on behalf of our students is undeniable.

“We are confident that by agreeing to allow Dr. Bradford to pursue new avenues for students success in this manner, she can help us to fulfill the mission of Shawnee Community College."

Shawnee’s Mission is “to serve the needs of the student and our diverse community by providing quality higher education, community education, training, and services that are accessible, affordable, and promote life-long learning.”

In assuming these responsibilities, Dr. Bradford turns over day-to-day operations of the College on June 15, 2019, to an interim team that will rely on the capable administrative staff currently in place at Shawnee.
