Rural health care highlighted

The CEO of Union County Hospital in Anna is joining in a national recognition of health care which is available in the nation’s rural areas.

“In recognition of National Rural Health Day on November 15, and on behalf of Union County Hospital, I am proud to recognize the innovation, quality of care and dedication of health professionals and volunteers in our community,” Union County Hospital CEO Jim Farris stated.

“We thank them for their continued dedication to providing high-quality care and improving the overall health of Anna,” he continued.

“Union County Hospital celebrates the ‘Power of Rural’ and recognizes the efforts of those serving the health needs of over 60 million people, or one in five Americans.

“At the heart of many of those communities is the local hospital. These communities are places where neighbors know each other by name, respect each other and work together to benefit the greater good.

“The obvious benefit these rural hospitals provide is also the most vital: timely, quality care.

“Today more than ever, rural communities must address accessibility issues, a lack of healthcare providers, the needs of an aging population, and larger percentages of un- and underinsured citizens.

“And rural hospitals struggle with diminishing reimbursement rates and uneven funding that makes it challenging to serve residents.

“During National Rural Health Day, Union County Hospital joins fellow community hospitals across the nation to highlight the positive influence they have on patients and communities.

“We believe that health care works best when it is local, working to solve issues that are important and relevant to our community.

“Rural hospitals are vital to keeping a community healthy – physically and fiscally – and the goal of Rural Health Week is to raise awareness of the nationwide impact.”
