River levels slowly falling

Water levels continued to slowly fall early this week along the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau and Thebes.

The National Weather Service office in Paducah reported that flood warnings remained in effect until further notice for both locations.

As of early this week, a flood warning was no longer in effect along the Big Muddy River near Murphysboro.

The weather service reported the following flood updates:

Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau: At 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, the river’s stage was 37.2 feet. Flood stage is 32.0 feet.

Moderate flooding was occurring. Moderate flooding was in the forecast.

The forecast called for the river to continue to fall to a stage of 36.7 feet by Wednesday morning, July 17.

Mississippi River at Thebes: At 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, the river’s stage was 36.0 feet. Flood stage is 33.0 feet.

Minor flooding was occurring. Minor flooding was in the forecast.

The forecast called for the river to fall below flood stage by Thursday, July 25.
