New foundation will help to support Anna Community School District No. 37

At the Anna School District No. 37 Board of Education’s October meeting, a new entity was created to help facilitate the raising and distribution of gifts and donations to the district.

The new entity is the Anna Community Consolidated School District No. 37 Education Foundation.

The stated purposes of the foundation will be to promote, encourage and foster education in Anna Community Consolidated School District No. 37, to develop community and public education programs and provide information about education and educational services and programs available to the community, and to facilitate the receiving of gifts and contributions and the expenditure of such funds.

The education foundation will be a charitable, not-for-profit organization with 501 (c)(3) status.

The board of directors for the foundation will consist of seven to 11 members, including two ex-officio members, six members from various fields in the community and three members at large.

The ex-officio members will be the district superintendent (or a designee), and a member designated by the school board. The current ex-officio members are District 37 superintendent Chuck Goforth and school board president Grant Capel.

Other members of the board of directors include Tina Waller, a current Anna School Board member, who will serve as a member at large.

Waller is the widow of former school board president Roger Waller, who desired to see the dream of an educational foundation for Anna CCSD become a reality.

The retired president of the Anna-Jonesboro National Bank, David Gould, will bring his experience from the financial industry as a member of the board as well.

Gould has been a longtime supporter of the school district and has helped facilitate gifts donated to the district in the past, including the recent addition of computers to the school’s computer lab. He also played a significant role in the formation of the foundation and its bylaws.

District 37 principal Mark Laster will also serve the board as a member at large. Laster will provide information and insight on the educational needs of the district and the opportunities of the community.

The remaining seats on the board of directors are in the process of being filled. It is anticipated that the process will be complete by the November school board meeting.

The foundation has already begun receiving several monetary gifts, with funds donated totaling $7,700.

Tina Waller presented a check from the Roger Waller Memorial Fund, and David Gould has presented donations from the David Gould family, William Cunningham and Gibson Consulting.
